Dramatical influence  of Tattoo in the Nigerian Fashion & Beauty Industry.

Dramatical influence  of Tattoo in the Nigerian Fashion & Beauty Industry.

The word tattoo is said to have two major derivations from the Polynesian word 'to' which means 'striking something' and the Talitarian word  'tatau' which means 'to mark something '. The history of tattoo began over 5000 years ago  and it as diverse as those who wear them. Tattoo are created by inserting coloured materials beneath the skin surface.

In the United States of America, tattoos were typically found among the lower the lower socio-economic class and the society deviants. The 'deviants'  stigma since changed as entertainers, doctors,  lawyers and people from all walks of life use tattoos. In Nigeria, the fear of the unknown as well as the stereotype of deviants have struck.

There is a negative stigma associated with those who wear tattoos as the  public, at large,  view it as a morally wrong thing to do. The negativity associated with tattoos notwithstanding the tattoo syndrome is slowly and surely gaining acceptance in Nigeria. Indeed,  a flashback into the history of tattoo in Nigeria reveals that they have been used overtime for different purposes including medicinal, decorative and spiritual, as well as to show bravery, especially for warriors.

There are two main types of tattoo, temporary and permanent tattoos.  Within Nigeria, the temporary tattoo is the most patronised as it affords its wearers the flexibility of wearing different types depending on the occasion.

Whatever opinion you have about tattoos, it is a trend which seems determined to stay.  Be aware, however that when the trend fades, depending on the tattoo you get, you will have to live with the permanence of your Nigerian tattoo ink.
